YEC-Academy to host Creative Youth Exhibition in Ibadan

This year's CREATIVE YOUTH EXHIBITION which has been scheduled to hold on Saturday, 19th January 2013 at Alliance Francaise, by Iyagankun Police Station, Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, will unveil to the Ibadan community and the world at large a new set of young creative entrepreneurs in the field of photography, shoe-making and ICT, with special focus on the first-set of graduands from the just concluded YEC-Academy's 8-weeks free vocational training programme held at Ibadan North-West Local Government, Onireke, Dugbe, Ibadan, Oyo State.

YEC-Academy was launched in 2012 as a vocational training project by four CYFI Fellows with initial funding support from the U.S. Consulate General Lagos (through the Carrington Youth Fellowship Initiative program) and with additional funding from Joan Agha Foundation coupled with the endorsement as well as provision of hall facility by the Ibadan North-West Local Government. So far, over forty-five (45) young people have acquired basic practical skills in Photography, Shoe-making and ICT as a result of the free sponsored program.

What the exhibition primarily stands to do is to showcase and help to promote these young and empowered Nigerians as they step into the world of value creation and financial freedom.

Youth Entrepreneurship and Creative Academy (YEC-Academy) is one the five youth engagement projects by Fellows of the Carrington Youth Fellowship Initiative inaugurated and sponsored by the U.S. Consulate General, Lagos and also supported by Joan Agha Foundation (J.A.F). The YEC-Academy which is a vocational training and skill acquisition project has an on-going free practical training program on film-making/photography, shoe-making, ICT and entrepreneurship development for more than fifty (50) youths in Ibadan North-West Local Government, Onireke, Ibadan-Oyo State.
Plans are ongoing to link-up all the trainees to core professionals in the field of film-making, photography and shoe-making to enable them gain more practical knowledge and mentorship in a period of one-month after which there will be an exhibition event to showcase the students and their finished products or materials to stakeholders in the community, corporate sponsors and relevant agencies within and the shores of Nigeria.
