Frustrations Of An Emerging Generation by George Ashiru

This is how you define frustration:

When a bird is all set to fly, and the wind beneath its wings becomes still.

When a man is sent to war, and he is given only one bullet to win the war.

When a footballer shoots at point blank range, only to find that the post has been shifted.

Our emerging generations are full of passion, and haven honed their skills, stretched out their hands to grab at their future, only to see its been stolen by a crooked cabal of rulers...

That, my friend, is the definition of frustration...Frustration is often militant.

JUNE: Rejoice, Rethink and Run

* Why Rejoice?
For everyone who made it to this new month of June, I believe there is a need to rejoice and celebrate regardless of whatever it is you have lost or gained since the beginning of this year. Cultivating an attitude of gratitude is very important, because it helps us to focus more on the positive side of life and gives us hope for a better tomorrow.

* Why Rethink?
Take a few minutes and rewind back to the beginning of this year, possibly you had written a "New Year Resolution" which is a set of goals and objectives of all you wish to achieve through the year, isn't it? So, the question now is, are you still committed to what you have set out to accomplished or you have even forgotten all about it? Today is the right time to rethink, revive and re-strategize so as for you to be able to make something worthwhile out of the remaining months ahead of you. It's never too late to make a new plan neither is it wrong to review the old one.

* Why Run?
Time is one of the greatest resource and gift that every human has in equal measure. Nobody has more time than the other, we all have 24hours each day to turn our dreams to realities. One popular secret about time is that those who plan their life (in order of priority) and stick to it will always achieve greater results and still have more time to do other things. Meanwhile those who leave things to chance and fail to plan will experience the direct opposite. Goal setting alone is not enough without the willingness and ability of the individual setting it to run with it from time to time until tangible results becomes evident. Start to live right by spending your time wisely on things and with people who add value to your life.

Your failure or success depends on these three things, the earlier you adjust and stick to them the better your chances of achieving more than you ever thought possible in the long run.

December 31st 2014 is just around the corner, what story will you tell when it comes?

I wish you a Happy New Month!

NIGERIA 2015 - We Are Still Waiting (by George Ashiru)

Look around you, very few politicians care about God or righteousness, yet some citizens are screaming religion in campaign mode. Very few political gladiators have done anything consistently in and for their communities, yet, their bigotted ethnic clones are clamouring into high heavens for votes biased with ethnic tones.

Where are the issues, the values, the programmes, the character, as the substance of our debates?

Alas! Even the reformers have gone with ethnic or religious winds...neither of which have taken us out of this developmental cul de sac for 53 years.

We are still waiting for a transformational generation which rises above primordial instincts that even good education finds hard to rub off. God bless the true Nigerians.

The Last Sensible Reality TV Show in Africa (by Adedoyin Matthew)

It's seem the Nigerian youths are beginning to speak up against the most popular reality TV show in Africa, BigBrother Africa. The reality show which is currently airing on DSTV (the largest TV network in Africa) is acclaimed to be the most viewed program both online and offline with not less than hundreds of thousands clicks added daily on their YouTube channel.
Here is another article by a Nigerian youth speaking on #BBA and other similar reality tv shows. Read and enjoy!

***********************

Maryam Jameelah, a muslim scholar wrote, "never before in the history of man had the graph of moral degradation shown a rapid decline as in the 21st century"

Moral degradation has reached the peak and our sacred parts are not considered sacred again. Human sexual sanctity has deteriorated to a level which is shameful even to the beast. Atimes, I wonder if animal is wiser than man in keeping their sexuality.

Yesterday, I was bombarded with one Alex Osagie's BC asking for the ban of BBA Africa on DSTV. Well, I support his stand but I think we have allowed this satanic manipulation, in the name of reality show come upon us. The last sensible reality show that elope our TV screen is The Debaters season 2 where my brother, Chinedu Chidi came top . This intellectual show left when there was no enough finance to continue, and if I may ask, how many of us even watch or know the debaters? But we are familiar with star quest, MTN Project Fame, Glo Naija Sings, Airtel, Nigeria got talents etc. I'm not saying these shows are bad, but our youth spend more time on them than intellectual and purpose driven shows.

This is my point: It is not just enough to call for the ban of BBA; it is not just enough to broadcast Alex's message; let's also change the mentality and mindset of our young ones starting with ourselves - Let's stop voting for housemates, let's stop sending sms and let's stop watching it. And let's promote intellectual events that will cause a positive change.

PS: You know Wizkid and Davido but do not know Chinua Achebe. You are one of the reasons Prof. Wole Soyinka said this generation is dead on arrival.
